Eligible UPLB students can receive P7500 for mental health aid
3.6 million Filipinos faced mental health issues during the pandemic, according to a 2021 study. There have been efforts to curb this trend, including some schools that ensure their students’ healthy state of mind. The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) is set to provide financial aid worth P7,500 for the mental health-related expenses of its learners.
In the memorandum shared by the university’s publication, UPLB Perspective, the university publication, posted a memorandum that showed the project is in line with the UP Student Wellness Subsidy Program (UP SWSP).
The initiative also “aims to encourage students to seek help from mental health professionals,” including those who have second thoughts about resorting to professional help. The UPLB website also clarified that the said financial assistance will be given to students per semester.

The Office of Counseling and Guidance (OCG) will decide which beneficiaries are eligible and qualified based on UP SWSP’s guidelines. Meanwhile, the Office of Scholarships and Grants and the Office of Scholarships and Grants (OSG) will manage the disbursement of funds.
This isn’t the first UP school to implement this initiative since UP Manila executed the same financial aid program in March of this year. Other universities have also extended their hands by providing psychological services to students amid the pandemic.
Ateneo de Manila’s Bulatao Center has free consultation services for Filipinos, who can sign-up for free every Thursday. In February, The University of Santo Tomas‘ Mental Health Responders gave free psychosocial support and intervention.
