‘Conyo’ weather reports are a thing now, apparently
When you think about news updates, you’d probably picture it as something serious and straightforward. But Digital News Exchange (DNX), a Bacolod-based online publication, shared a weather update using what the Internet calls as ‘conyo’ language.
On July 8, DNX’s advisory about the storms entering the country read, ‘Two Bagyo. State weather bureau PAGASA says two or three cyclones are expected to enter the Philippines in each of the months of July, August, September, and November.’
At the time, PAGASA explained that even if no storms are expected to arrive, it monitored that two tropical cyclones could enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR). The weather bureau also said on July 11 that the low pressure area (LPA) off Quezon has a low chance of turning into a typhoon.
Meanwhile, Filipino users also flooded DNX News’ comment section with quips. One said, ‘I’ll make handa for the two bagyo. Thank you.’
Others argue that the one who posted the advisory should be held accountable. Another user said, ‘Editor typing on iPhone 13 pro max fully paid, while sipping milktea.’
The publication’s unusual use of conyo words made the post go viral as it garnered over 66,000 reactions on Facebook as of writing. Conyo language is a slang that involves the use of both Filipino and English words.
