Born Alexander James O’Connor, English pop singer Rex Orange County has been reported to be facing six counts of sexual assault charges in the UK. O’Connor however denies the allegations as he appeared in court at Southwark Crown in London yesterday, October 10.
The Sun reports that the singer-songwriter allegedly assaulted a woman aged above 16 first on June 1 at the West End twice. Four additional instances followed the next day June 2- once inside the taxi and thrice inside his home in Notting Hill.
The 24-year-old has pleaded not guilty to his charges and got released under unconditional bail. His representative said in a statement via The Guardian that O’Connor was “shocked by the allegations, which he denies, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.” The British artist is also not allowed to make any further comments on the situation due to the case still being an ongoing proceeding.
O’Connor had been given January 3, 2023, as a provisional trial date.
Prior to the charges, Rex Orange County announced in July that the Australian, New Zealand, and European leg of his tour would be canceled due to “unforeseen personal circumstances” that required him to stay at home. “This is the last thing I want to do.” he writes. “I look forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.”
