The Internet draws mixed reactions to a Transwoman and her distasteful experience at a clothing store
At the end of the day, it all boils down to consideration and mutual respect.
It also isn’t so hard to be an understanding and kind person.
The Internet draws mixed opinions on transwoman Louis Marasigan’s experience at a fashion boutique in Taguig yesterday. The TikTok video where Marasigan shares her distasteful experience garnered thousands of shares and comments just within the span of a day of posting.
In her TikTok, Marasigan narrates how she was supposed to fit her clothes in the women’s fitting room but was then quickly barred by who is assumed to be a sales representative of the store, saying she should fit her clothes on the second floor where the male fitting room is located.
Marasigan then said she no longer argued after kindly explaining and clearly stating that she is a trans woman but was still asked to go upstairs to fit the clothes as there were allegedly other customers complaining. She ended up not fitting the clothes and just paid for them immediately.

Marasigan quickly posted a follow-up video that further narrated what really transpired after exiting the store. Apparently, it was only Marasigan and her sister that were in the fitting rooms at the time, so what other customers complaining was the staff member pertaining to? That was also beside the point, said Marasigan. “Hindi naman kasi ako lalaki. Alam naman natin yan. Transwoman ako.” she cries out.
Marasigan also opened up about how the manager was so quick to dismiss what happened. Especially being part of the LGBT themself, as Marasigan noted. Instead of educating their staff about what had happened, they instead were dismissive and only asked Marasigan if the situation was handled.

Although there were many, especially Marasigan’s trans sisters like Mela Habijan who did a Facebook post advocating for Marasigan, and the LGBT, including Filipino-American YouTuber Bretman Rock that commented against the situation, there were still rather harsh comments written towards Marasigan herself and invalidating her experience.
Comments laced with transphobia also littered the comments section. Those comments just further prove the need for Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and (Gender) Expression (SOGIE) education and a bill that would both inform everyone and protect the LGBT.
Clashing points and opinions were made in the comments section of Marasigan’s post, but one thing is for sure, Transwomen are women and at the end of the day, it isn’t hard to be a person who can display respect and understanding towards others.
