A live-action ‘Hercules’ remake will be inspired by TIKTOK

A musical based on TikTok?

Do we have to scroll down to watch the movie?

As reported by Variety, ‘Avengers’ filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russi are set to return to Disney to produce a live-action adaptation of the 1997 Disney classic ‘Hercules’ with ‘Aladdin’ 2019 live-action remake director Guy Ritchie.

According to Joe Russo, the ‘Hercules’ adaptation will be a bit more “experimental” in tone and execution. “I think they’re excited to see what we can all bring to it in a way that isn’t just a reinterpretation of the animated film,” says Russo.

The live-action remake unlike the recent Disney remake of ‘Mulan’ will keep the musical aspect of Hercules. “Audiences today have been trained by TikTok, right? What is their expectation of what musical looks and feels like?” Russo adds approaching the musical with inspiration from the app TikTok might be the “fresh” push they may need.

In recent years, Disney has made a few remakes of their classics that garnered mixed reception from the audience. Among them was the 2020 live-action remake of ‘Mulan’ where the audience looked for the key characters General Lee Shang, Mushu, and the music as Disney took a more serious tone on the Chinese folklore story.

Although the songs and voice actors of the 2019 adaptation of Lion King were notable, the remake also received mixed reviews from its audience. Fans of the classic noted that the CGI animals lacked the emotions needed by the characters.

Since then, Disney fans have been skeptical about Disney remaking their classics, asking if these are really necessary. However, fans are excited about the new look Disney gave Ariel in the upcoming ‘Little Mermaid’ remake where they cast singer Halle Bailey as the iconic red-headed mermaid.
