Maine Mendoza wants to remind you that Aldub wasn’t real

PSA: Fans’ delusions actually give our favorites a hard time

If you truly care for them, please respect them and leave their personal lives alone

The beginning of AlDub

We understand that our interest in our favorites may sometimes get us a little bit crazy, but there is a fine line between still respecting our idols’ personal lives and spaces, to completely being rude that we begin to bother and disrupt them. This is a case Maine Mendoza opened up about that she is getting tired of.

The AlDub frenzy took us by storm in 2015 the minute ‘Yaya Dub’ got ‘kilig’ after seeing Alden Richards appeared on the screen at Eat Bulaga for the iconic ‘Kalye Serye’. Viewers immediately felt their chemistry and the rest is history. We can’t truly deny the impact the pair had on Philippine noontime TV to this day.

The unexpected bloom of their love team definitely helped in skyrocketing both Alden and Maine’s careers. Since then, both have done remarkable work together and on their own. They officially parted ways in 2018 to work on more solo endeavors without closing the doors as they remain close friends and workmates.

What was shown on screen was not real…

However, some members of the mega fanbase seem to forget that both Alden and Maine were portraying characters on the ‘Kalye Serye’. Their ‘tamang panahon’ wedding was not a real wedding, but one that was done for their characters on the show, despite how realistic and nakaka-kilig the whole thing was.

And Maine Mendoza has had enough of, for the lack of a better term, the delusional fans that still pester her and Alden about them being married and having kids together.

In a recent interview with Ogie Diaz on his YouTube channel, Maine Mendoza took the opportunity to speak about the fans who are crossing the line. The TV host was open about how uncomfortable it made her that there were fans that still held on to how they are married and have children in real life like their on-screen characters. “Meron pa rin po hanggang ngayon, kumakapat pa rin do’n. So ayun ‘yung hindi ko rin ma-tolerate.” she says.

Despite Maine’s personal efforts to set things straight by personally sending some of their fans direct messages on Twitter, they still don’t listen, making the actress grow tired of trying at this point. “Umabot na lang sa point na nakakapagod na mag-explain. I don’t think there’s something I can do para sa mga taong ‘to.”

Maine believes that it is important to let the fans know the truth even though it might hurt because it would be more painful if they believed in something that isn’t true. “Pwede naman tayo mag-enjoy. Pwede naman tayo ma-entertain na alam natin ‘yung katotohanan.”

She says, however, that she understands how fans may be this way as she is very thankful for the support she’s received.

At the end of the day, artists would not be here without their supporters for sure, but true supporters wouldn’t do anything to make their idols feel uncomfortable. These celebrities are still people with personal lives that fans should not overstep.
