We have our first Black Filipina Belle in HER
Filipino-American H.E.R. is set to star as Belle on ABC’s 30th Anniversary Special of ‘Beauty And The Beast’
The show premieres on ABC on December 15, 8 PM, and will be available on Disney+ the next day!
We finally have a Filipina Disney Princess! Following the iconic Lea Salonga being the singing voice behind Disney classics, ‘A Whole New World’ and ‘Reflection’, we can now look forward to seeing a live-action Filipina Belle.
Singer-songwriter HER, born Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson is taking Filipino representation to a new level as she takes the stage as Belle for ABC’s ‘Beauty And The Beast 30th Anniversary special.’
The Grammy award winner dons a beautiful costume with baybayin writing that reads ‘Bel’ which Filipinos were quick to spot.
The talented H.E.R. (Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson) – 1st Filipino & Black artist to play “Belle” in “Beauty and the Beast” (airs on ABC on Dec. 15) – represents her Filipino roots through indigenous Tagalog baybayin writings on her outfit. The writing says “Bel”. This is dope. pic.twitter.com/6I9ztiWYfX

In an interview with The View ABC, she shared that her being a Disney Princess now is a blessing because she didn’t really see princesses that looked Black and Filipino when she was younger. HER finds this as an amazing experience that she now gets to be that representation for a little girl.
HER also mentioned that she has a different level of confidence now and that she can’t wait for people to see this project as this is one of the most fun projects she has worked on.
